The Harker’s – Exterior Facade Upgrade

Design-Led Renovation

This exterior project focused on elevating the front and rear façade of the home through a combination of thoughtful design work, selective material upgrades, and detailed finishing. Rather than a full siding replacement, the goal was to modernize the appearance of the home, correct legacy deficiencies, and add architectural interest while respecting the existing structure and rooflines.

The project was delivered using a flexible, design-forward approach that allowed ideas to evolve through multiple site visits and design revisions before final execution.

Project Overview

The scope began with exterior design consultations and concept development to explore modern siding patterns, material options, and colour coordination that would complement the home’s existing roof and architectural style. Several design iterations were reviewed before landing on a vertical panel feature approach that added depth and contrast without overwhelming the façade.

Once the design direction was finalized, Fort Sask Reno coordinated material sourcing, scheduling, and execution to complete the work efficiently while maintaining a high level of finish quality.

Scope of Work & Key Features

Exterior Design & Planning

Multiple on-site and virtual design meetings were completed to refine siding patterns, gable features, trim proportions, and colour selection. Special attention was given to alignment, geometry, and balance between modern elements and the home’s original structure. Material availability and long-term durability were factored into all design decisions.

Siding & Trim Upgrades

Vertical LP SmartSide panels were installed in feature areas to create visual interest and a modern aesthetic. Composite trim was added around windows and doors, including full-height vertical trim where legacy penetrations had been removed. All trim work was carefully aligned and detailed to maintain clean sightlines.

Repairs & Corrections

Several existing exterior issues were addressed as part of the project, including soffit repairs, warped drip edge replacement, foundation penetrations, and legacy chimney and utility openings. Decorative covers and caps were fabricated and installed to cleanly conceal mechanical and geothermal components.

Electrical Enhancements

New pot lights were installed in the front gable to enhance curb appeal and improve nighttime visibility. All electrical work was completed to code and integrated seamlessly into the updated exterior.

Caulking, Sealing & Touch-Ups

Windows were recaulked as required, colour-matched sealants were used throughout, and detailed touch-ups were completed to ensure a uniform finish across old and new materials.

Execution & Coordination

This project required careful coordination between design, material suppliers, trades, and weather-dependent scheduling. Site visits were completed throughout the process to confirm details, address changes, and ensure the finished result matched the approved design intent. Waste removal and site cleanup were included, leaving the property clean and ready for use upon completion.

Results

The finished exterior presents a cleaner, more modern appearance with improved detailing, corrected deficiencies, and enhanced curb appeal. Strategic use of vertical siding, trim accents, and lighting transformed the home without the cost or disruption of a full exterior replacement—making it a strong fit for a short-term rental property where first impressions matter.
