All right, guys. Tom here, Director of Operations for Fort Sask Reno. And today I have with me, “Hi, I’m Paulo, the lead designer of Fort Sask Reno.”
So, today we just want to take you on a little tour of one of our suppliers, Nerval and their Edmonton renovation showroom. We’ve been using them for years for our shower doors, but we wanted to come and do a tour and start checking out all the other offerings they have.
And there’s a lot of selection with this company that we’re using for renovations.
“Yeah. Anything from kitchen counters and cabinets, cabinets, trees and showers, shower glass door. Usually we use them for shower glass door and bathroom.”
Yeah.
“Awesome for those shower doors. Like you can’t beat the price and the quality.”
“The quality and of course they also install that one for us and to ensure the quality of the installation.”
And good thing about this company, Nerval, they have a wide selection of products.
“Yeah, exactly. As you see behind us, they got a million different cabinet finishes and handle types and everything. So, it’s going to be an awesome spot for us to send our clients.”
“Oh yeah, for sure. For basic to luxurious finishes like acrylic and then basic MDF, they have everything here.”
Yeah. Yeah. Perfect. Well, let’s give you guys a tour.
So, this is the main lobby of the place here. So, they’re showcasing a nice kitchen. As you can see, flip the camera. Nice counter with the waterfall countertop.
“Yeah, a solid quartz here and then the modular cabinets.”
Exploring Tiles, Shower Doors, and Bathroom Features
Wide Variety of Tiles and Finishes at the Edmonton Renovation Showroom
So, we are here at the tile section. There’s a wide variety of tiles here from porcelain, ceramic, and then granite and natural stones here.
The trend right now for tiles, we usually install marble looking tiles for a modern contemporary look. But if you want to have an earth tone color, they have a wide variety from glossy to matte finishes and textured finishes for tiles here also.
This is the shower glass door that we usually install. Different finishes from stainless steel finish to black finish. That’s the trend right now.
And from all those sinks here, kitchen sinks, everything you need for your kitchen or bathroom, they have everything here in the showroom.
They also have wide varieties of lavatories here or sinks.
They also have this basin type, which is the modern trend right now. The basin type sink that we usually use for high end customers.
Yeah.
And also, as you can see here, this is a variety of luxurious mosaic finishes, especially this type of finishing here. It’s more modern eclectic design, I would say.
And also, as you can see here guys, there are natural stone granite finishes. Again, we use this one for flooring and counters.
“This is high end stuff, right? And could you explain a little bit for everyone what’s some of the difference? Like, why would you want a gloss tile versus a matte tile? In what applications?”
“Usually we use gloss tiles because it’s much easier for cleaning and maintenance purposes, and again it’s more luxurious. Usually we use it for walls. Then for matte finishes we use it for flooring, of course for safety concerns.”
Yep.
“And of course glossy tiles are a lot easier to clean and it has a luxurious look on it, especially if you have good lighting.”
Yeah, it will glare nicely there for sure.
“Yeah, as you can see there’s lots of glare.”
Shower Door Options and Modern Trends
So here’s some of the different shower doors. The Emma and stuff.
“Yep. Usually we use this one, the Emma, and yeah it comes with chrome finishing, satin finish, and also black finishing. But the trend right now, usually our clients select black finish.”
“Yeah, that is the trend right now. They love it.”
“And is this, as they say, a bypass door?”
“This one, I believe. Yeah, this is the bypass door.”
Okay, the bypass door here. I believe this is Anna if I’m not mistaken. But yep, bypass door.
“And then this one’s fixed. I believe this is the fixed one.”
“Yep. One slide here.”
Nice.
“Yep. They have different varieties of handles. If you want more modern, it’s more straight and contemporary. They also have this rounded looking style. But we usually use this square design here because it’s more modern.”
Yeah.
Lots of tiles to get some inspiration from.
“Yeah, for sure. This is a designer’s paradise actually.”
And as you can see here, there’s also a lot of options for mirrors and vanity mirrors. They have these medicine cabinet mirrors here for your bathroom.
They also have this LED lighting, which is the trend right now. Comes in different sizes.
“Yeah, this is more on luxurious mirrors that we usually install for our customers.”
And if you want to have a contemporary feel on your shower glass door, we usually install this one, the Sher. It has like a French door looking shower glass door here.
“What do we have over here, Paulo?”
“I believe this is the shower pan.”
Okay.
“Yeah. The shower pan, as you can see here, you have different options. Most of the shower pans they have here are really high end. They have this wide drain system.”
“Yeah, that’s the linear drain.”
“Yeah, this is the linear drain. And then they have this grip for safety, of course. And they also have this acrylic but stone looking shower pan here.”
Looks fancy.
“Yeah. Very nice.”
Custom Showers, Vanities, and Cabinet Inspiration
High End Shower Designs and Storage Solutions
Not a very popular option, but we have gold finish over here. Some clients love that one, but it’s not usual. It all depends on their concepts.
That’s a pretty big corner shower actually here. It’s a decent size.
“Oh yeah.”
Yeah, it’s custom picture framing I guess.
“Yeah. Actually, they use this one for mirrors and of course for accents. As you can see, they have a wide variety of frames here and they could customize your mirrors based on your preference and design, including your photos and artwork.”
Okay, we are here right now at the vanity section of Nerval.
As you can see, these are some sample vanities here. Solid vanities.
Also, they have this fancy corner shower here for sure. They also have a wide selection of hardware for barn doors here.
It’s really a good product and really sturdy, one that we could recommend.
And also here they have a wide selection of samples for quartz.
“You can select this one and customize what type of finishing you want for the vanity.”
Yeah.
“Can you tell me a little bit more about this custom shower here, Paulo?”
“For this custom shower here, as you can see, this is a modern style shower right now. They have a bench. This is a trend right now that we usually install for our clients.”
“The marble finish and some clients request a bench as well. Usually we install that one.”
“And there’s a shower wall here that is easy to install. Just glue it on the wall and that’s it.”
“And as you can see, high end thick tempered glass here and a modern handle.”
Nice big shower. Good looking shower for sure.
Custom Closets and Cabinet Finishes
We’re proceeding with the cabinet area here. This will be the shelving for your custom walk in closet here.
They could customize everything finishing wise.
So, you can see they have the common wire rack here. But if you want to have a luxurious closet, they have everything.
They have all the samples you could select and you could touch the texture. That’s the main thing.
Before, we were not just designing. After designing, we ask our client to go here to our supplier so they can actually feel the texture or touch the sample because it’s much better to experience the materials itself.
“Yeah, we’ve had customers before pick out a quartz and then they come to see it in person and they’re like, ‘Oh no.’ They picked a completely different quartz when they saw it. It’s hard to tell over a phone screen.”
Yeah.
“Wide varieties of shaker style doors here. Tons of samples for you to take.”
“Usually the client asks for the sample and then tries to figure out in their house if that is okay with them or proper for the specific design.”
“What would you say your favorite style is right now?”
“Actually, most of the clients and one of my favorite design concepts is contemporary modern. Mostly for kitchens, it’s a shaker style door with a wood grain like this.”
“This is the trend right now. A light piggy finish.”
“And as you can see, you could feel the texture with this one. You could say that this is a high end product.”
“And also one big thing about kitchens, you have to ensure that the hardware is really good quality. As you can see here, it’s a soft close cabinet.”
“And you have a wide variety of handles.”
“That’s the thing about it. We could customize separately right here.”
“Yeah. Lots of handles.”
“From stainless steel to satin to gold to black, they have everything.”
Awesome.
“And also here, as you can see, this is the high end product. The common product for this one is just the matte finish for the cabinet, but the high end will be the acrylic finish.”
“As you can see, it’s so glossy. It’s like a mirror finish here. Call it piano finish.”
“And then one of the high end textured finishes will be this one because obviously you could see the grain here.”
“It’s really really high end. These two products here, the glossy and the wood grain, are really high end products.”
Lighting, Quartz, and Why Fort Sask Reno Uses Nerval
Modern Lighting and Smart Design Features
And then we have some induction cooktops here. So, these are pretty cool. They don’t actually get hot to the touch.
“Yeah. And it also has a seamless looking design here for sure. Modern.”
We have a kitchen coming up soon and they want a cooktop.
“Yeah. I’ll be doing that design soon.”
“Paulo was just working on a kitchen project yesterday in Sherwood Park.”
“So, this would be a good option to send in.”
Yeah.
And also in this section, this is the bathroom section.
As you can see, they have a wide variety of toilets here. Two piece to one piece toilets.
This is a two piece toilet.
They have a natural stone finish basin here.
As you can see, this is really high end.
Usually, we install this one for high end customers because this is granite.
And also lots of faucets here from brushed nickel finish to chrome finishing.
They have everything.
“What do you say is the most common toilet you pick for our customers?”
“Although the plumbers hate me for that one, I usually install this type of toilet here, one piece toilet because for me it’s more slick looking and also it’s easy for maintenance and cleaning.”
“But yeah, it’s really hard to install because you only have this hole here to adjust the screws.”
“But I really love the one piece toilet. I usually pick this one.”
“And at the end of the day, you have the customer’s best wishes in mind. You’re not worried about a difficult install if the customer is going to have an easy time cleaning it.”
“Mhm.”
“And also, one thing about one piece toilets, it’s really sturdy.”
“Comparison to two piece toilets, no wobble.”
True.
They also have options for spotlights here. As you can see, all LED lighting from warm white to soft white to daylight.
They have everything.
We also installed this one in one of our kitchen designs.
And this is LED strip lighting for accent lights.
“Yeah, that’s some strip lighting in our Project A. We’re going to have that as well.”
“Oh yeah, I integrated that one in one of our basement projects. This LED strip to accentuate the space there.”
“Yeah, and the client we are excited for that one for sure.”
“Out of all these different types of lights, which would you say is the most common that customers and clients use?”
“Actually, the color lighting I would recommend is the soft white because it’s not too white and it’s not too yellow. It’s really warm, especially if you’re in the basement.”
“I recommend soft white for my designs and spaces.”
And they’re all Nerval branded.
“Mhm.”
They have different shapes like square, rounded, flush mounted. Everything is here and these are all LED.
“Yeah. Low energy consumption.”
So, back in the old days, most people used these can lights. And as you can see, you need a lot of room above your finished ceiling to allow the space to fit the can lighting.
But nowadays, with the modern puck lighting, you can see it’s much thinner.
“Yeah, there’s only about an inch or so.”
So, it allows you to put a pot light in a space where you used to not be able to.
“Tight spaces for sure, especially for the ceiling.”
“Very thin.”
Why Fort Sask Reno Continues Using Nerval
So, this is GS, a quartz supplier local to Edmonton. So, you can go and pick out your slabs there as well.
But here’s a bunch of samples.
The most common thing we’ve been doing lately is the white kind of Carrera looking quartz.
“Yep. This is a very popular one too.”
Very similar for the tile.
“So can you tell us a little bit about how we ended up using Nerval?”
“Yeah, actually we usually used Home Depot for products, but for Nerval, because we checked different options and most of our customers wanted a luxurious finish, that’s why we searched and luckily we found Nerval.”
“Good price and of course the quality is really superb.”
“That’s the thing about the supplier. And yeah, no delays with install and everything.”
“We didn’t encounter anything bad about the supplier. That’s why we keep using them for our interiors.”
“And again, a wide variety of selection. That’s one big thing about Nerval Edmonton Renovation Showroom.”
