Looking Back Our First Instagram Posts and Siding Projects
Welcome to Fort Sask Reno: Reflecting on Our Journey
Hey all, it’s Jim from Fort Sask Reno in Fort Saskatchewan. Welcome back to the channel! Today, we’re trying something new for our YouTube videos, social media feeds, and maybe even a TikTok account. I’ve been thinking about interesting ways to communicate with clients and customers, add content for our website, and keep it engaging.
Looking back, some of our previous content was good, but I wanted to spice things up by sharing stories from our past projects. This is my first attempt at this style, so I’m not sure if this will make it to YouTube or beyond, but let’s give it a shot. We’ll go back through our social media history, talk about jobs we’ve done, and maybe share a laugh or two. Let’s dive in!
The First Bathroom Renovation
On our Instagram account, we have a post about the first bathroom renovation we ever did, which was in West Park. At the time, we were focused almost entirely on exteriors. However, the client asked if we could handle a bathroom reno, and two of our team members, John and Freddy, stepped up.
This was just a shower renovation, featuring a river rock tile floor. Back then, we didn’t use modern CIE membrane systems. Instead, John and Freddy applied a concrete base, which was their old-school method. The project also included a built-in niche, a popular feature that’s still in demand. While the aesthetic may not be what’s trendy now, it was exactly what the client wanted, and that’s what matters.
The Castle: A Massive Exterior Project
Another memorable project is what we called “The Castle.” Located in Strathcona County near Uncus Elementary School, this new construction job was one of the biggest projects we’d taken on. The house was enormous, requiring extensive vinyl siding, soffits, fascia, and eavestrough installations.
Working on this job involved significant heights, using pump jack systems and scaffolding to safely navigate the walls. The job extended into November, and we had to deal with snow and freezing conditions. Despite the challenges, the Castle project was rewarding and stands out as a milestone for Fort Sask Reno.
Community Commitment: Supporting Fort Saskatchewan
At Fort Sask Reno, we’ve always believed in giving back to the community. Over the years, we’ve supported local causes like the Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank and community sports teams.
In the past, we ran promotions where a percentage of proceeds from exterior renovations went to the food bank. While these initiatives didn’t see much uptake, we now contribute through consistent monthly donations. Supporting our community is important, and we’re proud to play our part.
Smaller Projects: Adapting to Local Needs
Not all projects are as large as the Castle. In fact, we’ve done plenty of smaller jobs, such as installing screen doors and handling minor exterior fixes.
One example is a job in Pine View, where I renovated my own home. The project involved adding foam insulation, triple-pane windows, vinyl siding, and shakes in the gables. Reflecting on it now, I realize the importance of choosing contrasting colors for gables to make them pop—a detail I’d approach differently today.
The Evolution of Fort Sask Reno
When we started as Bulu Enterprises, our focus was solely on exteriors. Over time, we’ve expanded to offer comprehensive interior and exterior renovation services. With a new logo and branding, Fort Sask Reno reflects how much we’ve grown since those early days.
Our team has also grown, with talented members like Tom, Levi, Sarah, and Daryl bringing their skills to the table. Each person plays a vital role, and I look forward to featuring them in future videos to share their perspectives and experiences.
Wrapping It Up
This video is just the beginning. I plan to revisit more projects and bring in other team members to chat about the work we’ve done. Hopefully, this content will give you a better sense of who we are and what we do.
